With the "Start More Than a Car, Get More Than a Test Drive" tour, Ford is looking to add a bit of excitement to the test-drive experience. Rather than taking a few fast corners on the local highway with a salesperson riding shotgun, Ford's nationwide tour will offer potential Focus customers a custom-built, video game-like course meant to highlight the small car's handling.
According to Automotive News, each Focus will have a laser outfitted to the bottom of the car; the driver's goal will be to aim for the dead center of the various bulls-eye targets located throughout the track. The closer to the center the driver gets, the more points they earn -- and they'll have real-time feedback to let them know how well they hit each target. According to Automotive News, "if they drive directly over the target, drivers will hear the blaring sound of a guitar or the cheers of a roaring crowd through the car's speakers," while "groans or sighs" will fill the cabin if they miss the mark.
Not only that, but drivers will have their whole run recorded thanks to a lipstick camera mounted near the rear-view mirror; after completing the track, they can have a video of their trip emailed to them for sharing on Facebook or Twitter.
The "Start More Than a Car" tour is aimed at attracting younger buyers who may first consider a sporty European or Asian model.
